Revelation--Session II

Please read Revelation 13-22, concentrating on the last four chapters. Again, cite a verse or two from this section that show particularly well the beauties of this book or that show how difficult the book is to understand and interpret.

The Book of Revelation has several beautiful passages in it. However, the beautiful passages are also very confusing as to what is meant sometimes.

I find the passage refering to the Old Testament and the passages bringing praise to the Lord and our God very beautiful and gloryful.

I'm not disagreeing that the Book of Revelation is not how the end times will happen. It could happen like that, with minor details differing, or it could be that he might have imagined all of this. I don't know, but as it is explained in such detail in the Book it is very likely that I am wrong in thinking that John could be overexaggerating.

I am not saying that there is something wrong with such faith and hope. No matter what is to come the Book of Revelation has a overall message of hope and trust in the Lord.

I think that 20:4-6 is another example of how confusing Revelation can be. The passage itself is relatively understandable; Satan will be bound for a thousand-year period in which God and a select group of his followers in Heaven will rule.

However, you will notice that this entire time--this milleniumm--is covered in just three verses. There are other sections of Revalation that describe one short event that take up close to a chapter while this event is only alloted three. This warped timeline only seems to add to the overall confusion of the book.

Revelation is a book that because of its symbolism is a book that has many people guessing since it was written long ago.

One of the parts that has people guessing is Chapter 20, where Satan is thrown into the bottomless pit for a thousand years and then will be released. There are at least three interpreting to these chapters - postmellenialism (the church will by itself bring about a time of peace and prosperity before Christ's return), premillenialism (Christ will return to earth and reign in person), and amillennialism (Christ has already started His thousand year reign in heaven or the Church is establishing the kingdom of Christ between his First and Second Coming).

While Chapter 20 is a difficult chapter to interpret, Chapter 21 & 22 are the end result of God's work, with a New Heaven and a New Earth. John goes into details of the wonders of this new wonderful place. The city is made of many different jewels and the city and streets are made of pure gold. After all the carnage, bloodshed, and sin that has occurred in the first twenty chapters, these final two chapters offers hope to those who believe.

The book of Revelation is full of judgements and bad things happening. However the end of Revelation has a beautiful passage

Revelation 21:4"And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away."
This passage has beauty since it offers hope to those who kept God's will and did not follow Satan.

Book of Revelations has many good passages referring to when Jesus is coming. It claims that Satan is headed for doom. Jersalem is going to become a beautiful, clean city. Angels and a rider on a white horse are telling the people to prepare for Jesus is coming. The people should be ready for this event. This has many good stories. It could be used to help people
believe. Thats what I comprehended from it. Revelations is a pretty confusing passage. Alex Mason

I think that in chapter 21, almost all of it, is a hard chapter to interpret...there are alot of things that a novice bible reader cannot understand (me). There is alot of number reference to lots of different things that hardly seem relevant to me...foundations, tribes, measurements, sardonyx, sarius, sardius, gates, pearls, gates....all in the same chapter, with different values and amounts. These things confuse me and i have trouble finding this book beautiful when i am confused.

revelation 21: 3 says And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying Behold the tabernacle of God is is with men.

This passage in its' self isn't the most beautiful thing in Revelation, but I think it is interesting. So many times we here about Heaven and earth and how they are two seperate entities seperated by clouds and air. This passage is saying that Gods' kingdom is here on earth. It says that God joines us here and lives among us in an eternal paradise. I think this is a very interesting verse because it can be interperated to go against the norm. It is beautiful in the grand scheme of things.

As previous people have stated Revelation has many beautiful passages in it. I particularily enjoy chapter 19 v. 11-15 "I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True. With justice he judges and makes war. His eyes are like blazing fire, and on his head are many crowns. He has a name written on him that no one knows but he himself. He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and his name is the Word of God. The armies of heaven were following him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen, white and clean. Out of his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations."He will rule them with an iron scepter." He treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God."
I find these verses to be beautiful because of their use of extensive and powerful imagery

Although this is a fairly obvious answer, I think verse 21:1-5 is one of the most beautiful passages. Finally, everything has come together. The passage illustrates such pure clarity, understanding, and completion. The New Jerusalem has been purified. This scene is peace after unbelievable hardship and adversity. The world seems to be untouched amidst hate and crime. It shows optimism which was hard to keep. Now the book of Revelations becomes focused on rebirth and hope, rather than destruction and evil. It seems that everything has finally come together in a great force. This new land alludes to promises of a heaven. How long can such an image last? This new land is very promising when promise and hope heals.

I find the whole of 13-22 able to show the beauty and difficulties of this book. The imagery, either being positive or negative, gives the reader a great picture in their minds and that in its own way has a beauty one can appreciate. However, the same imagery becomes confusing to what is really meant by using so many descriptions and pictures.

I totally agree with Margaret in her decision to choose a beautiful verse found at the end of the book. Being an optimist, it is easy to see why I enjoyed that verse because it offers hope and relief for those ppl. who choose to live a righteous life according to God. In the midst of all that confusion and theology comes a clear line that really allows one to take a deep breath!!

Rev. 22:1-3
This passage was very vivid to me, even though I am sure that there are many other more beautiful passages in revelation. I like the idea of the Tree of life and the pure river of life. I like that the leaves represent the healing of all nations. At the same time I wonder why the leaves represent that. It seems to be an odd part of a piece of fruit to represent peace. Either way I really liked this passage.

Many parts in this second part of revelations are very hard to follow. First off I would have to agree with Rachelle on passage 20:4-6. I found that very confusing. Also, another passage I found confusing is the part in which the book is talking about the monster obviously being 666, and everyone should know that. I new the monster was evil, but 666 didn't exactly jump out at me.

I think the section about "The Rider on the White Horse" is beautifully written. I think the descriptions of the man, who is The Word of God, are especially beautifully written. "His eyes are like a flame of fire, and on his head are many diadems; and he has a name inscribed that no one knows but himself." Although the context of this book isn't necessarily a beautiful thing, it is still written very well.

Some of the most beautiful passages in Revelation deal with the coming of the new Jerusalem. These passages tell of the end, after the trials and to me when you have gone through plagues and Satans ruling the new Jerusalems coming would be all the more beautiful.
